Rush........unless I am doing a specific (programmed)workout with the incline on the treadmill... I leave it at 1%....my Coach/trainer says the same..and I think I may have read it in RW...you don't want to run with it at zero....during your workouts to raise the incline for brief intervals is good...but not for the entire workout... you want to vary the incline...or just leave it at 1 or 1/2%
Trish.....my target goal next week would be 3:20....(3:20:59 or less) to qualify for Boston...if not, a Personal Best would be good too... (under 3:34 something??)...

Trish...nice job on going six when planning on four...it's always nice when you feel good and go further then you set out to do.....and to do so pain free is a good bonus..

Hi. Yes, that is true, but after 10 marathons I know that is not true for me. I think most people are harmed by them physically. During number 10, I was asking myself "What am I doing this for?" I should have written more carefully and said "They WERE a lot of fun" . I plan to focus on 5K races for now. I love trail running

Well I did my rest day on Friday really well, so well it ran over into my Saturday and I missed my cross train day. But I did get to the gym and did do 5 miles. I felt off at first but then the miles just started ticking off. i did find that running long distances on the treadmill just aren't that fun for one and two I catch myself looking at the distance and time too much. I hopefully can find a place to run outside, but its been icky hot and the air quality was unhealthful for everyone the last few days so I'm gonna have to stick to the treadmill until the head dies off and the air quality gets a little better. I left my incline at .5 for most of the run today but kicked it up for about a quarter mile, then took it back down. i stayed mostly at 5.5mph but went to 6mph at 4 miles then up to 7 for the last quarter mile sprint to the finish line. I've been watching my heart rate and its been getting a little lower the more I train, last week when I sprinted it was like at 180 when I finished and then today it was only 166. This weeks training schedule is the same as last week so I'm happy that after 3 weeks of training I've only missed one day. I'm trying to play my runs while in NYC in a couple weeks. we download a couple running maps and distances through central park, I'm looking forward to that.

Rush--Yeah, I'm with you on the treadmill thing. If I'm ever out of town and have to use a treadmill at a hotel, it is excruciatingly boring even if I watch the TV that is there. LOL...yeah, I keep looking at the distance too and think, "Man--I should be farther along than THIS!"

many of the people I run with feel the same as most of you about the treadmill and long runs.... with the winters the way they are up here....I don't have much choice if I want a quality workout...and with the marathon training, I did run my first 20 miler on the treadmill....I just turn the music up....it's not that bad.....as it makes water stops easier...I would run it in increments...stop briefly for water and a gel...and then continue... I do catch myself watching the pace and distance..and thinking I'm gonna be doing this how long ??? I think it helps with running discipline....I think it is better on the joints too...but as is most things...it's a personal choice..
Rush you said you are heading to NYC..... I was told by a person who lived there..that each block is a tenth of a mile...that may help with your running plans ???

i'm looking into a running club. i've gone to one of the meetings. they've started ramp-up training to get ready for the marathon in march. i think i'm going to wait until they start the real training and then join. i'm fairly certain that i'm going to stick to half-marathons for the next year though --- we'll see how my december outing goes before i make that decision though.
i'm confident you're going to be great, rick. you've stuck to your plan --- it will be a great day for you, no matter how you finish because you are ready.
i would think the extra sleep would be good.
