It all depends on what you want to do. I have thousands invested in Canon digital SLR equipment, yet I always have a "pocket" camera with me as well. I use the Canon SD750...a relatively inexpensive one that takes some great shots, and it very easy to use.

Hi, I would like some advice about a digital camera. I never bought one yet and need some advice on which kind to buy or is there a certain brand you all like, is the cost different in all cameras also? Thanks alot.
What kid of photography experience do you have? have you used SLRs?
I always have found the site www.dpreview.com to be a very valuable resource for learning about cameras and comparing their "specs" and features.
I have had good experiences with the Sony and Panasonic "point and shoots".
My DSLR's are Nikon for professional work and one Pentax for sentimental reasons.
Enjoy the "digital world".
I would echo what everyone has said thus far. First you need to identify what type of shooting you want to do and then you can read reviews about any cameras that grab your attention at www.dpreview.com and you can even set up the site to do side-by-side comparisons for features and price.

It sounds as if you definitely want to focus on the point-and-shoot cameras, Dianne. Even the most "basic" offer lots of features, but also the ease of just turning the dial to the green camera/AUTO icon, pointing, and pressing the button.
Commenting on islandwineguy's earlier comment: I always favor carrying a digital still camera even when I also travel with a DSLR. When Sony released the A700 I was sent to a number of call centers to train agents on the new camera... yet I found two of every three photos I took during my travels were actually from a point-and-shoot camera. Many images are all a matter of opportunity, so unless you carry a bulky DSLR absolutely everywhere you go, you will generally have more opportunities using a camera conveniently kept in a pocket or purse or hung from a belt.
