Many years ago when I was a lawyer I was asked to draft articles of incorporation for a non-profit, which was to do 'spiritual work.' They were all Cubans, and they said 'trabajo espiritual.' I explained to them that there were very harsh rules regarding the IRS and non-profits, and made a date to meet the whole group on a Saturday at one of their homes. As I started telling them the IRS rules, the woman who owned the house started speaking in broken Spanish, channeling a 19th century slave in Cuba... I had a hard time understanding her, but she was talking to me, saying things no one there knew, and yes, her whole demeanor changed while this was going on. One of the weirdest things was that my youngest son, who was then 6, had been telling his father and I that we were not his parents, and he was also saying in school that he was 46 and his father was 45, prompting his teacher to call for an evaluation by a psychiatrist... My son was always very polite to us, saying that he liked us, and liked our house, but his real house was white with a picket fence, up a hill... This woman channeling said, and I could understand part of it and one of the members of the group interpreted the rest, that my son had been alive with his father in another life, and had died at the age of 46. No one there knew about the problems I was having with my son Carlo, which ended, by the way, after he reached the age of 7. If it was a past life memory, it stopped. I have had a number of 'strange' experiences, such as the materializing of things and people I needed, unexpectedly, or communicating with someone I had lost track of, after thinking about them, and after many years of absence. In fact, I walked into the basement of Unity Church in Teaneck and heard this beautiful singing, and there was my best buddy from law school, who had moved to Maryland to care for her aging parents, and was just visiting New Jersey and this small particular church! And we broke into spirituals, and it was amazing...
