I've recently been "drafted" by the other parents to coach our 12 yr. old daughters' field hockey team this fall.

(No I never played field hockey myself. - I was a soccer player - but) I have been a "very active" fan and observer for the last few years, and learned just enough to get myself (in trouble.)elected as coach.

There must be some current coaches or ex-coaches out there who'd be willing to offer some "Words of Wisdom" or warnings about potential pitfalls to steer clear of.

I already encountered some "eye rolling" from a few of the girls I know when I said we had to do a lot more focused "Thinking" on the field during games this year.

Our first practice is next week. Season starts after Labor Day.

Keeping with the nautical theme skipper, shouldn't that have been "press-ganged"?

All my friends are old enough to make their own minds up* but I'll drift off and trawl around...

*On second thoughts, that might not be so accurate after all...
